What Treatments Are Available for PTSD?
The Fear and Anxiety Disorders Clinic offers a cognitive-behavioral therapy program for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder that typically consist of twelve to sixteen weekly sessions of cognitive-behavioral therapy. Sessions last about one and a half hours each, and are designed to enable trauma survivors to deal with their feelings of fear, anxiety and stress. Therapy includes discussion of frightening thoughts, relaxation training, confronting safe situations and/or recall of painful memories via imagery to reduce their emotional impact. Research has demonstrated the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral therapy for PTSD.
